Weigh In #3

I wasn't going to post today about my weight loss because it was minimal, but when Courtney said in her post today that I was her inspiration to join the Sisterhood, I felt I had to take responsiblity for my week.

I lost .06 pounds this week. I had hoped for so much more. I guess that any loss is better than a gain, but come on. I had fallen in love with the Wii Active, but I guess it doesn't love me so much in return. I guess I need to go back to Jillian kicking my butt. I also started biking some and walking pretty regularly. My eating wasn't bad with the exception of the fried fish last night and some frozen yogurt a few nights. I couldn't help the fish. My husband and son-in-law caught them and there is nothing like fresh fish. We haven't had it in years and that is the only way they will eat them. But oh man, it was so good.

So, my plan for this week. I have to get back to eating like I was when I was working. It was so easy then. I had a routine. I ate before I left for work and I took a lunch and had a set lunchtime. I'm not doing that now. There are days when I don't eat much more than a Live Active cheese stick and some fruit till dinner. I know that is wrong and I will change that this week. I have grapes all stemmed and washed and green peppers sliced and ready in the fridge to grab a quick and easy snack. No thinking involved there. I have Fiber One bars, yogurt and fruit for breakfast and Lean Cuisine's for lunch. That is the same things I was eating when I was working. Dinners will be mostly salads and grilled chicken, turkey, pork or fish. Sounds like a good plan, right?

So girls, that is my plan for the new week and hopefully next week I can earn my 10# button. I hope that next week I won't feel like I'm letting Team Red down.

GO TEAM RED !!!!!!!

  1. You may be building muscle, which does make weight loss seem less than it is. And... .06 is very, very good. You know that rule about losing a bit more slowly some weeks because it's better for your body and you're more apt to keep it off. You definitely have a great plan going, and I would never have been able to pass up the fish either! I am in Week 4 of my 8-week Sprint Triathlon plan, and yesterday I had to bicycle 50 minutes and then run 10 minutes immediately after. The biking went very well. The day was beatiful and a bit cool and the route takes me by a wonderful park and a lovely bay. I did struggle on some sloping hills, but I kept on going, thinking of my husband (hurt leg) who would give anything to be biking rather than in physical therapy!! BUT the run!? Oh, boy. My legs were like rubber when I started. I went about 3 minutes and I was panting like a wounded animal. An older gentleman was on the sidewalk and said to me, smiling, "You gonna make it!?" I couldn't even talk, so I gave him 2 thumbs up! But when I was done, I felt so happy that I did it. Ah... setting goals. Isn't it scary and awesome at the same time!? Keep up the good work! You ARE an inspiration!

  3. You can do it! I have faith in you. I have been walking too, in the mornings with my friend and at night with my daughter and the dog. Every little bit helps. Sounds like you have a great plan and lots of good healthy things to eat. I am pulling for you. I have lost some weight this winter/spring and I feel so much better in my clothes. My loss was from stress though and that is not the fun way to lose weight. Love & blessings from NC!

  9. Hi, Nancy,

My name is Connie. I'm a friend of Mom Generation Sharon from the time we were in college together.

I just read your response on her blog and just had to write.

I have fought weight all my life, balooning to nearly two hundred pounds when I was in college. I lost sixty-five pounds then by starving myself. Not good. After having our two sons in 1980 and 1982, much of the weight came back.

In 1991, when I was thirty-nine, I learned that I had thyroid cancer. It was a scary time. Our boys were only eleven and nine at the time, but all turned out well. I decided that I would not only try again to lose some weight but also to develop an all around healthier lifestyle. I have been at a comfortable and healthy weight for quite some time. Here are some tips from someone who has been there. I hope they help. You can do it!

    1. Don't cut out any food groups. Any diet that says "no fat," "no carbs," no anything is not good for you. Your body needs all these elements in moderation. If you deprive it, your body will crave them all the more.

    2. If you really want something, even it's it "bad" for you, go ahead an have it. Even if you have to "pig out," as long as it's only one day. Don't make the common mistake as I used to and feel that if you "fall off the wagon" once you've blown it for good.

    3. Don't think of your new way of eating as a diet but as part of a new, healthier way of living. Eventually, and I promise you this is true, you will no longer feel these cravings as often or as strongly. In time, even if you wanted to, you will not be able to eat the way you did in the past.

    4. Try to avoid prepared foods. As part of trying to eliminate as many food additives and artificial ingredients as possible (doing so 100% is nearly IMpossible), I started to read food labels. My personal limit of salt for one serving is about 22%. Also, if the labels reads more like a chemistry lab list than food components, leave it on the shelf.

    5. The often told advice to shop the perimeter of the supermarket and leave the center of the store alone is good advice (this goes hand-in-hand with #4). Eat fresh!

    6. Losing weight slowly but surely not only gives you a better chance for success but it better for you as well.

    7. Be flexible. If there's something you just can't give up, don't. I don't like natural peanut butter, it's too messy, so I use regular old Skippy. If you can't stand margarine, use butter, just not too much. Anything positive you do is better than doing nothing at all.

    8. Go easy on yourself.

    Good Luck!
By the way, I think you look wonderful as you are.
    And your daughters are beautiful.

    Warm Regards,
    Connie C.

  10. Don't be hard on yourself. You still had a loss. You need to eat to lose! I know you have heard that before. I agree with Sharon's comment about the muscle. I am pulling for you and the red team, so keep on keeping on and just remember the story of the "Little Engine that Could". I think I can....I think I can....
